How We Chose These Tiers

We defined each tier strictly by price — not quality rankings, not brand prestige. Budget means under $50 per piece: fast-fashion and mass-market brands that look decent and fit well enough for daily wear. They won't last five years, but they'll get you through the first two looking sharp. Mid-range sits between $50 and $150: better fabrics, smarter construction, brands that care about fit. This is where most men should spend the bulk of their budget — you get 80% of premium quality at 40% of the price.

Premium starts at $150 and goes up from there. These are investment pieces — shoes you'll resole, a suit you'll wear for a decade, a coat that makes everything underneath look better. We don't recommend going all-premium. The smart play is mixing tiers: a $30 Uniqlo shirt under a $500 SuitSupply blazer looks exactly right. Nobody's checking your receipts.

Every recommendation here is something we'd actually buy. No sponsored placements, no brand deals influencing the picks. Prices reflect typical retail as of January 2026 — sales and seasonal discounts will bring them lower. Start with budget, upgrade the pieces you wear most, and build from there.
